New Release – 26/03/2007 - PARRY/SOEGAARD – CD – OFF THE MAP – HWYLNOW01CD

Steve Parry and Fredrik Søegaard had previously recorded together as part of Hwyl Nofio. Off the Map represents their first recorded work under the name of parry/søegaard.

'...my favourite music is the music I haven't yet heard,' said John Cage.

The guitar represents eternal opportunities for fun and invention. Predicability shunned, spontaneity and experimentation form the basis of learning. This, combined with abstract tunings and preparations. The guitars utilised on this recording are Fender Stratocaster, Washburn J3 and Fender Acoustic. Parry also plays a ukulele and violin.

Parry describes his music as a 'marriage of dilemmas being resolved in another space'.

Fredrik Søegaard has recorded numerous CDs; among these are his recordings as the søegaard ensemble for leo lab records. The søegaard ensemble plays contemporary improvised music using chaos theory, forwards and backwards running time/space structures and implicates directives from the boundaries of science. This music has been described as challenging and full of suprises.

'...music for the millennium' wrote AVANT Magazine of Søegaard's CD release 'chronox'.

The trademark for this guitarist unquestionably is the use of groundbreaking scientific structures in the music. Søegaard has been working with a custom-made MIDI fractal converter since 1997, applying Mandelbrot fractal structures directly to his guitar improvisations in real-time. Recently he has introduced the concept of a virtual bass, playing completely independant lines in counterpoint to his guitar playing.
